Reviews
Ôlyrix - Julien Delhom
Donna Anna is portrayed by Gabrielle Philiponet. The controlled and rigorous
ornamentation of her voice serves the complexity of the young woman's feelings, which evolve throughout the drama, much like her arias. When she calls upon Ottavio to avenge her, the high notes sound as piercing as the blade she offers him. The quality of her
breath control lends her lines a sustained intensity.
Gabrielle Philiponet lends Donna Anna a new fragility, that of a woman lost between fear, desire, and memory. Her demeanor, more sensual than noble, disrupts the conventions of
the role: curious about her attacker, she seems as fascinated by evil as she denounces it, even going so far as to disarm her father in an ambiguous gesture that saves Don Giovanni and makes her, despite herself, complicit in his death. This reversal gives her character a disturbing ambiguity…
