Reviews

Anaclase

The far more richly textured musical lines of Portia—for whom Bassanio burns with
passion—allow soprano Gabrielle Philiponet to build beautifully in intensity, perfectly attuned to Zamacoïs’s verses—one thinks of the duet with Bassanio, carried by violins and horns, 'La félicité après les alarmes semble plus douce au cœur inquiet’—while she also delivers, with angelic grace, the anticipated, exquisite arias of melancholy and the
ode to love ('qui parfume l’aveu, adoucit les reproches'… 'suscite le pardon, apaise le
conflit)'… where the well-paced vocal line, set to a melody as gentle as a breeze, sweeps
us away!..

Forum Opéra

The other pillar of the cast is Gabrielle Philiponet’s Portia; it is a pleasure to see her take on a leading role that reflects her voice’s evolution toward more demanding repertoire.
She is completely at ease—even in the courtroom scene where she appears in male disguise—and the tonal qualities of her soprano sit ideally between those of her fellow singers...

Crescendo Magazine

With the silky roundness of her high notes, Gabrielle Philiponet portrays a radiant Portia, wooed by the dashing Bassanio..
